For a lot of poker players the thing that gets in the way the most
in becoming a great poker player is their mind set. There is always a
number of different mental mistakes that have caused even good poker
players to fall at times. Without figuring out what it is that is
keeping you from being successful you will never be able to move forward
in your skills as a poker player. I will identify the most common
mental mistake that you may make and how to correct it so you can be
successful and start turning a profit at the tables.

The most
common mental error that poker players make is ending up going on tilt
because of a bad beat or someone getting into their head. Tilt is when
you get frustrated at some point because of something that has happen in
the process of the game, this leads to the lose of chips and can put
you further on tilt. Even some pros are known for going on tilt and
losing large amounts of money. I’m sure if you have ever watched poker
on TV you may have even seen this happen.

To make sure that you do
not go on tilt it takes a lot of self discipline. If you notice that
you go on tilt a lot when you have a bad beat or someone starts talking
trash to you, you will want to get up and get away. You could take a
walk or go watch TV if you’re playing online. Do anything that gets your
mind of poker for a few minutes. If your in a live game don’t be afraid
to get up and miss a few hands, the cost of posting is worth not giving
your chips away when you are on tilt. Never play poker when you are
angry it will just end up a big mess and your pockets will end up empty.
