Sitting at the Poker table may seem a
little daunting, but if you know a few tips and tricks and the basics of the
game you will soon start collecting experience points too. With experience
comes the development of strategic moves, and this is what produces big
winners. Texas Hold’em (named after the state of Texas in the United States of
America), is a variation of the original game of Poker.

It is one of the most popular games, both live and at Online Casinos and,
over time, it has become the focus for many Table Game enthusiasts. Texas
Hold’em is generally played with a standard deck of 52 cards (no jokers). The
aim of the game is to produce the best 5-card hand from the available seven
cards (2 from the player and 5 community cards).

The game starts with all the players being
dealt two hole cards (these are kept private until the end of the game). Then five
community cards are dealt onto the table. Firstly, three cards are placed face-up
on the table. This is called the Flop. Then, the fourth card is dealt (called
the Turn) and lastly, the fifth card (the River) is dealt. The difference
between Hold’em and many other Poker variations is that you have four
opportunities to bet. Betting can occur prior to the Flop, on the Flop, on the
Turn and on the River. Every time the betting position comes to you, you have
the option to Check, Bet (Raise), Call or Fold. It is always good to take note
if you are playing a Limit game, No limit game or Pot limit game. This can
affect your betting and the general psychology of the players.

When the game starts, the first position is
the Button (Dealer). The second position to the left of the Dealer is the
“Small Blinds” and the person to the left of this takes up the post for Big
Blinds (normally a larger bet). Blinds are the opening bets, and the action of
posting Blinds places money in the pot, therefore providing a prize. The
betting goes around in a clockwise direction and the bets go into the pot. Once
all five community-cards have been dealt, it is time for the Showdown. At this
point, all players show their cards and the highest hand is rewarded.

Poker’s winning hands are based on hand
rankings. If there are two good hands, but one outranks another, then the
highest hand wins. If two players have the same high cards, then the kickers
can play a part in deciding the winner. As you can bet four times during
game-play, the game requires strategy to win. Therefore, you have to think
about what you are doing (this is a thinking man’s game).

There are a few factors still to consider. Position
is important, especially in No Limit games. Evaluate each hand individually on
its own merit. This is a community card game, so you need to bear in mind what
other players have in their hand, what they think you have and how you will
deal with the betting in order to gain the most winnings from the hand. Do not
be afraid to fold. Play hands that give you a winning chance. Texas Hold’em
Poker is a challenging and exciting game incorporating skill and luck to bring
you a great Table game. It is time to don your Poker face and start playing
this great game.
